Training partners are a wonderful thing. It's always nice to train with someone who
understands what you're goals are and it's beneficial too! Something to remember though is that often times we make an unconscious decision to help our training partner, no matter what technique we try it works. It is important practice a technique on a willing partner at first so that you get good repetitions, however sometimes this carries too far. We also need to be sure that our techniques will work on a fully resistant partner who does not want it to work as well. The people we are likely to use it on are not going to want it to work regardless of whether you are fighting in competition or using it on the streets. Find someone who is willing to actually do a full contact/full force practice occasionally. Make sure that they realize it could be painful and make sure that it is realistic.
